Will, a member of the Busch Lightning in the Bronze D Division at Centene and part of their tournament team, as well as a former player on Hazelwood Central’s first state championship team, was diagnosed last month with Stage 3 throat cancer. Employed as a union painter in St. Louis, he now faces an uncertain financial future, as his weekly chemotherapy and daily radiation treatments will keep him out of work for at least seven weeks, exceeding his available sick and personal leave. A husband and father of three daughters, he is the sole provider for his family, and this loss of income will create significant financial hardship. The most serious complication is the location of the cancer, which, while surgically removable, poses the risk of causing permanent damage to his throat.
Ways you can help
The DAWG Nation board has approved a 3-to-1 match for every dollar donated, up to a maximum of $2,500, with contributions going directly to support Will. From June 12th to 14th, the community will come together at the annual Gateway DAWG Bowl, hosted at the Maryville University Hockey Center in Chesterfield, Missouri, to skate in his support. Will’s teammates from the Busch Lightning have stepped up to assist and will proudly stand alongside the community during this special weekend. By supporting the event and volunteering, participants will not only contribute financially but also help strengthen bonds as everyone comes together for this meaningful cause. More details to come.
