A few weeks ago, an amazing moment unfolded at Jonny O’s 3-on-3 Affton Bash. After suffering a traumatic brain injury last year, Van Stone hit the ice for the first time in an organized game that weekend! It was another incredible milestone for Van and the remarkable group of Survivors who joined him. Photos captured Van retraining his brain and body to pass, shoot, and take face-offs, radiating joy and pride at being part of a team again. As Rick Alire said, “What a great reminder of what we as a community can accomplish when we come together!” Van skated forwards, backwards, and even managed getting fully dressed and undressed—an inspiring testament to the power of community. To top it off, DAWG Nation STL presented him with his very own jersey during Saturday night’s event, creating a powerful, emotional moment for everyone there. A huge thank you goes out to Van and his incredible support team, who also volunteered throughout the weekend—it couldn’t have happened without them.
