Jon “Jonny O” Orelt’s life changed in September 2020 when an accident left him paralyzed, but it never took away his spirit, or his love for the hockey community that has stood by him from day one. Jon has become a steady, positive presence at rinks across the Midwest, showing up for others just as they’ve shown up for him.
Jon often says that DAWG Nation has been a true blessing to both his family and him, not only in the months after his accident but still today. “They have organized hockey tournaments in my honor and traveled across the Midwest to assist other families in need. It is a remarkable organization that genuinely supports hockey families during challenging times.” His words reflect exactly who he is — grateful, grounded, and always thinking about the bigger picture.
For this year’s Survivor Game, Jon will take the ice in a sled, embracing the para‑hockey style. Taking the ice for the Survivor Game is more than a moment for Jon. It’s a reminder of resilience, community, and the people who never stopped believing in him. It’s also his way of giving back to the same hockey family that lifted him up when he needed it most.
