Ian “Scooter” Herndon serves as one of the officials for this year’s DAWG Nation Survivor Game, bringing nearly 20 years of experience as a longtime local hockey referee. This game holds special meaning for Scooter as he skates in honor of his daughter, Meg Herndon.

Meg was a nursing student at Southeast Missouri State University and a standout soccer player. On September 9, 2012, she was involved in a tragic scooter accident and passed away twelve days later. In her final act of generosity, Meg became an organ and tissue donor, giving the gift of life to others.

Each year, Meg’s family, friends, and supporters come together to raise funds for an endowed scholarship in her name at Southeast Missouri State University. By officiating the Survivor Game, Scooter honors Meg’s legacy, his family, and the community that continues to support them.
