Dan Smith has been navigating a difficult stretch over the past few years. In November 2023, he was diagnosed with abdominal neuroendocrine cancer and underwent surgery in February 2024 to remove tumors. After the procedure, he learned the cancer had spread to areas that couldn’t be operated on, and he now manages his condition with monthly treatments.

In April 2025, Dan’s wife, Tammy, who has never smoked or lived with any high‑risk habits, was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. Her cancer is also inoperable, but she continues to respond well to monthly chemotherapy and daily Tagrisso.

Facing two cancer battles at once is something no family prepares for, yet Dan and Tammy continue to support each other through every step. Their strength comes from staying positive, staying connected, and focusing on the moments that matter most.

Today, Dan takes the ice in the DAWG Nation Survivor Game as someone who continues to push forward, stay hopeful, and show what it means to keep going even when life takes an unexpected turn.
