An incident on the ice

On October 26th, 2024, at the Centene Community Ice Center, an unfortunate incident occurred during a hockey game. Dean Robinson, a dedicated referee, was officiating the 2009 AAA Blues team when he was struck in the face by a high stick. The stick went under his visor and hit his eye, causing severe damage.

Dean underwent surgery the following Monday, but unfortunately, the doctors have informed him that he will likely lose vision in the affected eye. This devastating news has had a profound impact on Dean’s life, as he is a truck driver and may need to find a new occupation.

Dean has selflessly dedicated his time to refereeing, officiating between 250-300 games annually to support his family and provide for his son’s college education. This tragic incident has not only affected Dean’s livelihood but also his ability to continue his passion for hockey.

Dean returns to the ice

It was an incredible weekend full of memorable moments. We had the joy of meeting Dean Robinson and celebrating our fundraising success with a $10,000 check, wrapping up our efforts on Saturday February 24, 2025. Most importantly, with the support of Hockey Heals and our amazing hockey community, Dean was able to return to the ice. We’re excited to continue working with the Robinsons in the future. Dean rejoined with our group on the ice after recovering from a serious eye injury.
